A legal team built for startup speed
The traditional legal model wasn’t built for startups. So we're evolving it.
Years of watching founders do their best with broken systems inspired us to design Darwin to be the legal partner we’d want if we were in your shoes—proactive, engaged, and constructive.
Why Darwin exists
Startup founders are heroes, and we want them to win.
For over a decade, we watched founders avoiding legal until it became a problem. Not because they didn’t care, but because their options were too slow, too expensive, and too out of touch.
Darwin started as a question: What if legal actually fit the way startups work? What if it helped them move faster, not slower? That’s what we built.
You’re sprinting, but Legal is lagging and dragging
What if Legal kept pace and pushed you through obstacles?

Ryan
Ryan Juliano
Founder and Attorney
After cutting my teeth at Kirkland & Ellis advising public companies and private equity funds, I spent a decade at Howell Legal, a Rhode Island-based corporate boutique, working with startups. Founders driving emerging tech forward inspire me—law is how I empower them. I launched Darwin Legal in 2025 when I realized the subscription model I believed in needed a firm fully committed to it.
I'm also an advisor to legal tech companies like HeyCounsel and Spellbook, where I help shape how technology transforms legal service delivery.
Off the clock: pickleball player, downhill skier, vegetable gardener, Americana music fan, Sunday NYT crossword puzzler, mindfulness practitioner. I live in Jamestown, RI, with my wife, Dev (yes, our Head of Ops!), and school-aged daughters, Scout and Roz.

Head of Ops
I've worn lots of hats during my career: Operations Manager, Account Manager, Scheduler, Business Manager, Conference Planner, Personal Chief Operating Officer, Event Planner, and even actor. In my NYC days, I founded LIL' RUGGERS, the US's first non-contact tag rugby-inspired enrichment program for children as young as three.
The through-line of all these adventures has been executing logistics in complex, high-stakes environments where there's no playbook.
At Darwin Legal, I work behind the scenes, handling day-to-day operations so Ryan can focus on client service and advancing the platform.
Off the clock: tennis obsessed, Halloween costumer, jigsaw puzzler, puppeteer wannabe, vegan chef, "Mom-ager," animal lover. I live in Jamestown, RI, with my husband, Ryan (yes, our Founder!), and school-aged kiddos, Scout and Roz.
